IHOP, Charity Make Tasty Combination On National Pancake Day

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- IHOP locations, including four in Westchester, served guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes Tuesday on the 10th annual National Pancake Day to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Ryan Calmon, a Pace University sophomore, and Tyler Mittleman, a Pace freshman, volunteered to help raise money for Maria Fareri Children's Hospital on Tuesday at the IHOP in Hartsdale.

Since all voluntary donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals stay local, contributions made Tuesday at area IHOP restaurants will benefit Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center and the care of the region’s most seriously ill and injured children.

Jack Pastor, a first-grader in Rye Brook, enjoyed breakfast at IHOP in Larchmont on Tuesday. Jack's mother, Donna, credits medical professionals at Maria Fareri Children's Hospital with saving his life. Jack was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma before he turned 3 years old, Donna DePinto said.

IHOP has set a national goal of raising $3.5 million for hospitals and other designated local charities on Tuesday. So if you have a hankering for flapjacks, the restaurant at  28 S. Central Ave. (Route 100) at the corner of Hartsdale Avenue (Route 100A) is open until 10 p.m. as are IHOPs at 1375 Boston Post Road in Larchmont, 1745 E. Main St. in Mohegan Lake and Central Park Avenue in Yonkers. IHOP in Stamford, Fairfield County, also is participating in National Pancake Day.

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center is a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and is the children’s hospital for New York’s Hudson Valley region and Connecticut’s Fairfield County. It has the region's only pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric transplant program, burn care and cardiac catheterization programs.
