On Tuesday, the doors at 14 Mill Plain Road will reopen as The Mill Plain Diner under new ownership. Customers may recognize the new owner, George Marnelakis, as he is also the owner of the Blue Colony Diner located off Exit 10 in Newtown.

The former owners made the careful decision to retire and sell the business to someone they trusted could uphold the exemplary service and quality to which their customers are accustomed.

The Beretis and Rountos families – including Steve and Zoy Beretis, John and Valerie Rountos, Jim and Maggie Rountos and Pete and Kathy Rountos – say they thank their dedicated staff and their customers, all of whom made the experience of running The Windmill Diner an unforgettable one.

"We are so grateful to our family, friends, staff and most of all -- our customers -- who have made the experience of running this restaurant so unforgettable. We could not have done what we did for so long without you," the owners said in a Facebook post.

"It has been an honor to serve this community for more than four decades," the post said. "It is not possible to articulate the joy our families have experienced as a result of the business you helped us create, so thank you. Thank you for helping us build a humble diner business into a local legacy."
