Greenwich Students Pay Off Layaway for Local Store

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich High School students collected donations to pay off holiday lay-away items at Norwalk Wal-Mart for a family in need this week.

After listening to a Secret Santa story told by one of their teachers about paying off lay-away accounts at a department store, students from the Community Learning Program decided they wanted to do the same. They collected donations for the project from students, parents and staff members to reach their goal.

The students chose a family experiencing financial hardship and decided the items should go to children. The account the students picked included a bicycle and a helmet. Greenwich High was the only school in the area to make a donation

This week the students dropped off the donation at Wal-Mart and were given the opportunity to speak with, and receive appreciation from, the family who received their gift.
