Joann Marie Smith, 75, was in cardiac arrest when crews pulled her from her home, located at 8289 Portsmouth Drive, around 6:17 p.m. on Monday, April 11, Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.
She later died at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital on Thursday, the department said. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental but the cause is undetermined, the department said.
Smith's death is the third fire-related death in Anne Arundel County in 2022 as a result of three fires, the department said. Last year there were only two fatalities from one fire in the county. The year before that, there were only three fire fatalities, the department reports.
