County to Host Town Hall Meeting for Vets Tuesday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --- County Executive Robert Astorino has invited veterans and spouses of those serving in the military to town hall meetings this Tuesday to discuss an upcoming job fair and other assistance the county can provide.

"I want to make sure our veterans know about the services that are available to them as well as about our plans for our virtual job fair," Astorino said in a statement. "This is an opportunity for veterans to also tell us what is on their minds."

The town hall meetings will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the County Center in White Plains.

The county has planned a virtual job fair for Veterans Day, where Astorino's administration, the Westchester-Putnam One-Stop Employment Office, the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency, and the State Department of Labor hope to decrease the high rates of unemployment among veterans.

On Nov. 11, businesses who have signed up to hire veterans will be featured on the One-Stop website. Veterans will register on the website and be matched and referred to various jobs. Those without computers, should report to the One-Stop Employment Office for assistance.
