Healy was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Stamford, to John A. and Elvira Paganetti Healy. Growing up in the city's Glenbrook neighborhood, he attended Stark and Burdick schools and was a member of the Stamford High School Class of 1942.
After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a crewman on a B-29 in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II, earning the rank of staff sergeant.
After the war, Healy attended the University of Connecticut and received a bachelor's degree in industrial administration. On a post-grad trip to Texas with his college roommate, he met Mary Ann Beniek of Little Falls, Minn. They were married in Dallas in 1951 and settled in Stamford, where they raised their six children. She died last year.
Healy worked for the family business, the Healy Hauling & Rigging Co. in Stamford before assuming ownership of the company in the mid-1970s.
Mary Ann and Jack Healy were avid ballroom dancers and regulars at Wednesday night ballroom dancing at Stamford's Terrace Club for many years. They were members of the Newfield Swim and Tennis Club and the former Scofield's Beach Club in Shippan.
Jack Healy was an avid golfer and a regular at Hubbard Heights Golf Course, walking the course into his 80s. He also frequented West and Cummings beaches in Stamford. He enjoyed hiking at Pound Ridge Reservation with his sons and daughter, a tradition they continued with their children. Jack was also a faithful New York Giants fan.
He is survived by five sons: Roger (Marilyn) of Fairfield, Peter of Stamford, Thomas (Karen) of New Canaan, Todd of Stamford and John (Kristin) of Ridgefield; a daughter, Sally Ann Healy of Stamford; and 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
