The work the people with the now-financially trouble non-profit do cannot be measured.

Statistics show that more than eight women and children are beaten to death EVERY day in the U.S. “Strengthen Our Sisters” was created to give victims safe harbor before they become statistics.
“[They are] fighting poverty, gangs, dysfunction, ignorance, abuse, prostitution, sex trafficking, everything, etc.” said Jacquelyn Aluotto, founder of “Pick It Up! Pictures” and the driving force behind the event.
Jacqui Phillips, co-founder of the Red Carpet Spa at the Galaxy Towers in Guttenberg and CLIFFVIEW PILOT beauty columnist, will be donating her time and products to give the battered women living in the shelter a fresh celebrity makeover.
She’ll be joined by celebrity hair stylist Eric Alt, ESPN host Ashlee Ray, Athena Georgiadis of GAB Public Relations and Sandra Florent of Solo Dove Public Relations.
Then the homeless women will participate in a fashion show. There will also be raffles for top-of-the-line beauty products.
“Hypothetically speaking, you have a woman who is in a horribly abusive relationship who has finally has gained enough courage to flee from her abuser and there is a soft place to fall — a place [where] she can take a “break” physically and metaphorically,” said Prisco, a/k/a “The Glam Fairy.”
In the shelter, Prisco said, a bettered woman “can develop, through analysis with a counselor, a footing in a world that is very new to her… and be able to join the workforce all while feeling emotionally capable.”
Aluotto, the Executive Director of Pick it Up Pictures, filmed and produced the documentary “Not In My Back Yard,” to raise money and awareness to keep battered women and children’s shelters open and to help give voiceless victims a voice.
“For more than 10 years I’ve worked and dedicated my free time to helping battered women and children,” Aluotto said. “I’ve made it my mission to do everything in my power to help these families in need.”
She worked closely with Sandra Ramos, who was the first person to open the first battered women and children’s shelter in North America and to fight the war on domestic abuse. I came to know Sandra as tirelessly dedicated, a feisty advocate who could just as quickly offer a warm shoulder to someone in need.
Through sheer will, Ramos helped created a 177-bed, nonprofit shelter program that for decades has provided housing and supportive services to thousands of women and children.
