Learn About World War I At Ruth Keeler Library In North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library will be holding a series of book discussions on World War I, funded through a grant from the New York Council or the Humanities.

Registration is preferred. The library will have copies of the books to borrow about a month in advance of the discussion date.

A rundown of events and book discussions is below.

Thursday, Sept. 4 - 10:30 a.m. "Regeneration" by Pat Barker;  movie after discussion "Regeneration"

Tuesday, Sept. 9 - 7:30 p.m. "The War that Ended Peace" by Margaret MacMillan, discussion led by John Steele Gordon

Thursday, Oct. 2 - 10 a.m. "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque, led by Heather Ostman; movie after discussion - "All Quiet on the Western Front"  1930 edition

Thursday, Nov. 6 - 10 a.m. "One of Ours" by Willa Cather, led by Heather Ostman

Tuesday, Nov. 18 - 7:30 p.m. "Good-Bye to All That" by Robert Graves, led by Heather Ostman

Thursday, Dec. 4 - 10 a.m. "Birdsong" by Sebastian Faulk: movie TBD

Tuesday, Dec. 9 - 7:30 p.m. Essay "What we Lost in the Great War" by John Steele Gordon, led by John Steele Gordon

Sunday, Dec. 13 - 3 p.m. "Winter's Dream" by F.Scott Fitzgerald, selections from the "trench poets" and "The Waste Land" by T.S. Eliot, led by Heather Ostman

Tuesday, January 13, 2015 - 7:30 p.m. "Paris 1919: Six Months that Changed the World" by Margaret MacMillan
