NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A S.T.E.A.M. Festival is steaming into North Salem on Saturday, Nov. 17, and it promises to be mind-boggling.

S.T.E.A.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, art and math and, according the the Ruth Keeler Library’s equations, it all adds up to a lot of fun.

“It’ll be like a Maker Faire,” library director Carolyn Reznick said. Maker Faires were conceived by the staff of Maker Magazine, a quarterly publication dedicated to creativity, artistic endeavor, innovative thought and a do-it-yourself mindset.

“There’ll be hands-on work stations around the library, such as 3-D printers and equipment to solder circuit boards,” Reznick said. “There’s a station for scratch video game design, and Eileen Diehl, who’s worked with the kids at PQ [Pequenakonck Elementary School] will run the robotics station.

“Jaymes Dec, who teaches science and math at Marymount High School will be here, too. He’s worked at Maker Faires before.

“The event is designed for children ages 6 and up but of course everybody is invited to drop in,” she added.

The S.T.E.A.M. Festival is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no charge, but children must register in advance by calling the library at 914-669-5161.
