North Salem Lions Club To Honor Fallen 9/11 Hero

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – North Salem’s Lions Club will dedicate its upcoming 45th annual golf outing to the memory of resident Vincent Halloran, a lieutenant with the New York City Fire Department, who perished at the World Trade Center.

“All of us remember where we were on 9/11,” said Warren Lucas, North Salem supervisor and vice president of the Lions Club. “I had a meeting that day in the World Trade Center Building Two at 8:30 a.m., but I missed the meeting, which makes me reflect even more on those who were not so lucky and gave their lives serving others.”

In addition to Lt. Halloran, the Lions will pay tribute to others who were killed in the line of duty to their country. “We are also proud to have two disabled women Army veterans from Afghanistan playing with us that day,” said Lucas.

The Lions Club Golf Outing will take place Monday at the Salem Golf Club on Bloomer Road. Registration and events begin at 9:30 a.m., with continental breakfast and a putting contest.

A barbecue lunch begins at 11 a.m., and a shotgun start is at noon. A complimentary cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., then it is time to eat again, with dinner being served in the clubhouse at 7 p.m.

There is still room for a few more golfers, although space is limited to 144. The charge is $225 per player, $60 of which is tax deductible. (Golfers must wear spikeless golf shoes.) Various sponsorship opportunities are available, too, ranging from $200 to $2,500.

If you are not a golfer but want to join the dinner at the newly refurbished Salem Golf Club Clubhouse, the price is $75, of which $30 is tax deductible.
