North Salem's Hammond Museum Holds Artist Reception

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden in North Salem will play host to an artists’ reception on July 11 to celebrate its three summer exhibits.

Attendees will have a chance to listen to jazz music while meeting Susan Manspeizer, Jane Neuss Cohen and other artists from Bangladesh, India and Pakistan from 1-3 p.m. on July 11 at the Hammond Museum, 28 Deveau Road, North Salem, N.Y.

The event is free and open to the public.

“Erasing Borders” in Hammond’s Guild Hall features artists of the Indian diaspora who address issues ranging from sexuality and terror to disease, the environment and racial and sectarian politics through painting, prints, installations, and sculpture.

Manspeizer’s “Facets” in the Hays Gallery uses bent wood sculptures to delve into the beauty and challenges of aging and maturing.

Jane Neuss Cohen’s “Welcome to Planet Jane” in the Goelet Gallery is a collection of clay sculptures and pastel paintings molded into two- and three-dimensional pieces.

All three exhibits run from June 24 through Sept. 12.

The veteran group of “free range” musicians The Non-GMO Jazz Project will provide light, organic interpretations of jazz and pop classics. Nisa Lee Events will provide refreshments and Henna tattoos will be available.
