KATONAH, N.Y. -- Northern Westchester Hospital believes that emotional healing is just as important as physical healing, which is why when its music therapy program ran out of funds, it enlisted help from the surrounding community to keep it afloat.

The Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation is raising money for the program this year with a benefit concert at The Harvey School in Katonah on Saturday, July 26, titled "Daddy Bands For Music Therapy."

The concert will feature celebrity and main benefactor Paul Shaffer of CBS's "Late Night with David Letterman" and legendary jazz trumpeter Lew Soloff along with other bands.

All proceeds from the concert will go to benefit the music therapy program.

According to Keeva Young-Wright, president of the Northern Westchester Hospital Foundation, Shaffer became involved with the program in 2012.

"(Shaffer and his wife, Cathy) had such an appreciation for the healing properties of music and potential that, as a couple, they were very interested in supporting the program and seeing us bring it back to the hospital," she said.

The hospital's music therapy program began in September 2010 and ended in May 2013 after it ran out of funding.

According to Young-Wright, the therapy is not reimbursed through insurance so it can be funded through philanthropy and community support.

With support from the Shaffer's and the surrounding community, the program was able to be restarted in May 2014.

Young-Wright said she hopes the event raises awareness of holistic healing and emotional health. Additionally, she hopes the hospital will use the funds to offer music therapy weekly, as it is currently only offered once a month.

"We want to thank entire community and the bands donating their time and talent. We know this is a whole community effort, and we are so grateful for the overwhelming show of support," she said.

Northern Westchester Hospital's holistic healing programs include but are not limited to music therapy, yoga, aromatherapy, reiki and gentle touch therapy.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door. For ticket information and questions, call 914-242-8352.
