Purdys Blazer Pub To Hold Friends Of Karen Auction

PURDYS, N.Y. – St. Patrick’s Day will soon be upon us and so will the annual auction for the Purdys-based Friends of Karen at North Salem’s landmark Blazer Pub.

The waitresses at Blazer Pub in Purdys will serve up beer and corned beef at this weekend's St. Patrick's Day auction.

This year it is a two-day celebration, starting Saturday, March 16, and continuing throughout Sunday, March 17. No one is saying what will be up for bids this weekend, but past treasures have included a hockey stick signed by Wayne Gretzky, GEICO bobbleheads signed by spokesman Brian Carney and a handmade dollhouse.

Bartender and acting auctioneer Tommy Hunt is “a champion," said Judith Factor, executive director of the Friends of Karen. "Tommy is an example of having an angel in an unexpected place.”

Hunt said, “I’m a catalyst because I can make a difference. I want people to know they can make a difference, too. What Friends of Karen does is just amazing. Each year the auction get bigger, and that means more help for sick children and their families.”

Friends of Karen is the tristate area’s only charitable organization devoted to providing financial and emotional support to children with life-threatening diseases and their families.

The Blazer Pub is located at 440 Route 22 in Purdys. Corned beef and cabbage are featured on the St. Patrick’s celebration menu, as well as the eatery’s usual array of pub food and beverages.
