What To Do In North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Lots of holiday events, musical and otherwise, will help get you into the holiday mood this weekend in the North Salem area.

Friday, Dec. 7

Caregivers & Coffee: 10 a.m. Get together with other nannies, au pairs, grandparents and minders, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and compare experiences. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Letters to our Military: 3 to 6 p.m. Stop by and write a letter or two thanking our military for their service. Letters will be delivered through the A Million Thanks Organization. This program has been organized by Phoebe Coughlin as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Front Street Cellar Wine Tasting: 5 to 8 p.m. The tasting takes place at 3 Front St. in Croton Falls.

HCS Hanukkah Dinner: 6:15 p.m. The Hebrew Congregation of Somers will have its annual Hanukkah dinner, featuring a “latkepalooza,” wherein tasters vote for the best latke. It’s at the synagogue at Cypress Lane and Mervin Drive in the Shenorock section of Somers.

Benefit for Max: 7 p.m. to midnight. A musical fundraiser will honor the late Max Romeo, victim of an October auto accident. Organized by Somers resident Richard Norbutt, performers will include Six Stories Told, Deuces Child, The Lost Highway Ramblers and others. Tickets are $20. Saturday, Dec. 8

Conversations with Local Gardeners: 10 a.m. Ask gardening questions and get answers from the local experts. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

¡HOLA! – Bilingual Story Time: 10:30 a.m. Enjoy stories and songs in Spanish and English with Barbara Crespo. The event is open to children of all ages. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Candy Cane Run: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s the Croton Falls Fire Department’s 2nd Annual Candy Cane Run. Hear the sirens and run outside to get your candy canes and greet Santa. For a schedule, click here.

Christmas on the Farm: 5 to 7 p.m. All decked out for the holidays, Muscoot’s main farmhouse will come alive with the aroma of baking cookies, the sounds of carols and a few seasonal stories to lift your spirits as well. It’s at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Menorah Lighting: 6 p.m. The second annual Menorah Lighting on the lawn of Somers’ Elephant Hotel will take place as the daylight fades. Traditional Hanukkah treats like latkes, jelly donuts and chocolate coins will be served. The Elephant Hotel is at the intersection of routes 100 and 202, opposite Bailey Park, in Somers.

Sunday, Dec. 9

Norm Hathaway: 2 to 4 p.m. (with intermission) The Norm Hathaway 19-piece big band will treat you to songs of the Winter Wonderland with vocals by Nicole Pasternak. Water, soda, coffee and snacks will be on sale. Tickets are $30 per person, $50 per couple, $20 for seniors and $10 for students. It’s sponsored by the Somers Lions Club to benefit Purdys’ Friends of Karen. Click here to purchase tickets. It’s in the Somers Middle School auditorium, 250 Route 202, Somers.
