NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Dancing under the stars and a horseback ride through local country are among the events planned in North Salem this weekend.
Friday, Aug. 10
Legos at the Library: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kids of all ages love to create with Legos. The library has a large supply and invites everyone to drop by to build. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
Norm Hathaway at the Hammond: 7 to 11 p.m. Brush up on your lindy, your waltz, your rhumba and your foxtrot. The Norm Hathaway Big Band is coming to play all the old favorites. The garden opens at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket and a picnic dinner. Dancing starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. The Hammond Museum and its Japanese Stroll Garden are at 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.

Conversations with Local Gardeners: 10 a.m. Discuss your garden, ask questions and learn new tricks at this monthly coffee klatsch with local experts. There is no registration and no fee. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Senator Greg Ball Reelection Kickoff: 2 p.m. The grand opening of state Sen. Greg Ball's campaign office in Carmel will feature a BBQ with hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings. The kickoff takes place at 1927 Route 6, Putnam Plaza, Carmel.

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Muscoot 4-H Summer Fair: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The various 4-H Clubs will exhibit their rabbits, poultry and other animals, with special shows of dog obedience, agility demonstrations, and other exciting projects. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
Book Launch: 2 p.m. The launch of Jo Pitkin’s book, “Cradle of America Circus: Poems from Somers, New York,” will feature a reading from the book, autographs, authentic 19th-century refreshments and music by local banjo players.
