What To Do In And Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Artists' receptions, a wine tasting and theater are among the events planned in North Salem this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 15

Caregivers Coffee & Chat: 10:30 a.m. Nannies, au pairs, moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are invited to get together for coffee or tea and meet other caregivers. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Front Street Wine Tasting: 5 to 8 p.m. Wine and Chocolate is the theme for the post-Valentine's Day tasting at Front Street Cellar. The shop is in the old Croton Falls Train Station at 3 Front St. in North Salem.

Art & Celebration at Union Hall: 7 to 9 p.m. The Union Hall General Store hosts a wine and cheese reception to celebrate the work of artist Donna Von Holdt. North Salem's Eric Pooley will provide the music. The event takes place at 2 Keeler Lane in North Salem.

North Salem High School Drama Club: 8 p.m. The club presents "The Princess Bride" by William Goldman. The suggested donation is $10. North Salem High School, 230 June Road.

Saturday, Feb. 16

Conversation With Local Gardeners: 10 a.m. Come to the library with gardening questions for local experts. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Dyeing Workshop: 10 a.m. to noon. Make your own hand-dyed scarf (or scarves) using a simple dip technique under the guidance of Mary Parker and Judy Flanders. The workshop is at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.

Inventors’ Club: 10 a.m. Learn about the design process, solve problems creatively and see what inventing is all about. The program, led by Eileen Diehl, is geared to children in grades two to five. It’s at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem. Registration is required. Call 914-669-5161.

Artist's Reception: 3 to 7 p.m. A reception to celebrate the Etch-A-Sketch artwork of North Salem native Bryan Lee Madden will be held at the Somers Library on Primrose Street. The show runs at the library through the month of February.

Sunday, Feb. 17

Winter Tree Identification: 1 to 3 p.m. With no leaves on the trees, how does the farmer know which are sugar maples, so he can tap them for syrup? Learn how to identify trees from bark, twigs and buds. It’s at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35, Somers.
