What To Do In North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A film festival, a harvest fair and a tea ceremony are among the  events planned in North Salem this weekend.

Friday, Oct. 19

Wine Tasting at Front Street Cellar: 5 to 8 p.m. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month Front Street Cellar will feature wines that give back. The shop is at 3 Front Street in Croton Falls.

EVN Film Festival: 6 p.m. See a special screening of “The Fifth Element” starring Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich. Proceeds support the building of the North Salem Middle/High School TV production studio. The festival is in memory of Erik Nicoletti. North Salem High School, 230 June Road, North Salem.

Saturday, Oct. 20

Northern Exposure: 10 a.m. to noon. The popular photography club meets at the Van Tassell House. The October assignment is titled, “Fall and Pets.” Photographers at all levels are welcome. For more information, contact Mimma. The Van Tassell House is at 98 Primrose Street, Somers. 

Fall Festival at Harvest Moon Farm: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hayrides, face painting, cider doughnuts, a pumpkin patch, apple picking and live music are a few of the highlights at Harvest Moon’s Fall Festival. Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard is at 130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem.

Lasdon Train Display: 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The annual holiday Lionel train display pays special tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Westchester Parks Department. The show is open weekends through October. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children aged 12 and under. Lasdon Park and Arboretum, Route 35, Somers.

PQ PTO Harvest Fair: Gather for the costume parade at 11:45 a.m. The fair continues until 3 p.m. with vendors, a bake sale, popcorn, inflatables, a braiding station, a costume swap, raffles, games, a barbecue, music by Deejay Joey C and more. Bring your own chair, blanket or towel. It’s on, rain or shine, at Pequenokonck Elementary School, 173 June Road, North Salem.

Family Art Workshop and Tea Ceremony: 1 to 3 p.m. A special family?friendly workshop at the Hammond Museum’s “You Are Not Alone” exhibit will feature Japanese and American art created by students following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan. After viewing the exhibit, each family will create a simple art piece or compose a message of support to be sent directly to the young Japanese artists. There is no charge. Hammond Museum, 28 Deveau Road, North Salem.

Sunday, Oct. 21

Seventh Annual Elizabeth Butler Angel Walk: Registration at 8:30 a.m., walk begins at 9 a.m. Walk to raise funds to help raise awareness of teen dating abuse. Learn the warning signs, see a safety demonstration, enjoy music and a barbecue. The first 200 participants get free T-shirts. North Salem Lions Club, 1 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Third Annual Run the Farm: 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. The one-mile kids race starts at 8:30, followed by the five-mile adults’ race at 9:15 a.m. The run takes place at Muscoot Farm, Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.
