What’s Happening Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A riding event, a swim for charity and an artist’s reception are among the events planned in North Salem this weekend.

Friday, July 20

Artist’s Reception: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. “Street Level” features photographs taken by Patrick Cicalo, North Salem resident and curator of the Schoolhouse Theater Gallery. “I went through 10,000 digital files from images I’ve shot over the last five years, and one thing I have learned – sometimes it pays to look down.” The show runs through July at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Saturday, July 21

Hunter Pace: It’s time for the Goldens Bridge Hounds Poker Run, an annual event for all riding enthusiasts. The course is mapped, not timed, so you can set your own pace. For more information call Yolanda Knowlton at (914) 669-1171.

Sunday, July 22

Swim Across America: 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. For the second time, the Lakeside Field Club will play host to swimmers participating in the one-mile or half-mile, individual or team swims in support of the fight against cancer. Proceeds go to several cancer support teams serving Westchester County. To register, donate and/or sponsor a swimmer, visit the website: www.swimacrossamerica.org

Farmers Market: 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans will be available. The Muscoot Farmers Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Basil vs. Basil at Muscoot: 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Did you know that there are several varieties of basil? Muscoot’s master gardener, Charlotte, will talk about the differences between them and describe other herb varieties in the Muscoot garden. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Fiber Lovers United for Fun (FLUfF): 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. If you’ve never done fiber arts like rug-hooking or weaving, here is a chance to learn how. If you’re experienced, here is your chance to learn more. Fiber artist Mary Parker will be leading the session in the Muscoot Farm Activities Building. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Lasdon Tour of the Main House: 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. This is a rare chance to learn about the history of Lasdon Park as you tour the main house under the guidance of a park horticulturist. Pre-registration is required. Call (914) 864-7264. Lasdon Park and Arboretum is on Route 35 in Somers.

Concert in Bailey Park: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. This week, performers are the Bensen-Scott Band, specialists in big band jazz, New York jazz and Latin jazz. There is no charge. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to Bailey Park at the intersection of Routes 100 and 202 in Somers.
