What’s Happening Around North Salem This Weekend

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Legos at the library, dragons at Muscoot and fairies in the forest are among this weekend’s events in the North Salem area.

Friday, Aug. 17

Legos at the Library: 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kids of all ages love to create with Legos. The library has a large supply and invites everyone to drop by and build. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.

Saturday, Aug. 18

Jai-Ho Indian Festival: 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. This second annual festival will be at the Danbury Green on Ives Street and features Indian food, artwork, music and dancing. There is a Bollywood concert, too. The concluding concert begins at 8 p.m. at Danbury’s City Center. For driving directions, go to the website.

Lebanese Festival: Noon to midnight. The annual Mahrajan Festival attracts thousands each year and features children’s games, live music and dancing, including belly dancing. Traditional Lebanese and Middle Eastern foods, such as kebobs, kibbee, falafel, grape leaves, hummus, spinach pie and baklava will be available. It's at St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury.

Popa Chubby Band: 8:30 p.m. Popa Chubby, a hugely popular star overseas, brings his lively blues/rock/R&B music to Pawling’s Towne Crier for one night only. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. The Towne Crier Cafe is at 130 Route 22, Pawling. The phone number is (845) 855-1300.

Sunday, Aug. 19

Farmers' Market: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fresh produce, meats, cheese, soaps, candles, honey, maple syrup, flowers, fish and delicacies from local farmers and artisans are available. The Muscoot Farmers' Market will continue every Sunday through October. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Tame Your Dragon 101: 10 a.m. to noon. Meet Muscoot’s resident dragonflies. They will be introduced by Bedford Audubon Naturalist Tait Johansson, who will catch dragonflies and damselflies so you can meet the magical creatures face to face. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Fairy Walk in the Forest: 1-3 p.m. Even children who don’t believe in fairies will be transformed when they encounter the ones living in Muscoot’s forest. If you've got a fairy costume, remember to wear it for the occasion. There is no charge. Muscoot Farm is on Route 100, 1½ miles south of Route 35 in Somers.

Emerging Excellence: A Collaborative Dance Installation Benefit for the Arts features a performance choreographed and staged by Somers' Maggie Foster, a student at the Boston Conservancy. Performances take place at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Putnam Arts Center, 521 Kennicut Hill Road, Mahopac.
