NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – A small dog was found roaming near the intersection of Route 121 and Dingle Ridge Road by an early morning riser on Saturday.
The dog is long-haired, like a shih tzu or Lhasa apso, light beige in color, and apparently quite old. She was in very poor condition when found, and might have wandered away from home some time ago. She is described as a sweet dog who needs a loving home where she can live out her remaining days.

The owner of the little dog that we call Scrappy CoCo called me this evening to tell me that he had seen her picture and had been driving around looking for her and was worried that she had been taken by a coyote.
When I asked him if he realized that she was in very bad shape he told me that he really didn't have time to look after her anymore as he was working nights and did not have a fenced yard. I'm going to try and meet with him tomorrow and get all her medical and vaccination records as well as some eye medication. I will have him sign over the dog to me and then I will be looking for a home for her. She is 12 years old, blind and deaf and has very little hair on her body as she had mange and fleas when she was found. As I said it took three hours to clip off her mats and bathe her twice and her nails were so long they curled.
I just wanted to thank you for taking such a wonderful picture of her and stopping by to see her and of course, running the story. She was so lucky she was not hit by a car or lost in the woods. I'll keep you posted on her progress. If her hair grows back she will be much cuter. It will take a very special person to adopt or foster her but she has a heart of gold and I cannot believe how happy she seems. Best, Petra
