A Croton Falls Christmas

CROTON FALLS, N.Y. - Croton Falls has its very own Christmas tree this year, thanks to the owners of the Croton Creek Steakhouse . The tree has 4,000 twinkling lights with another 3,000 on the surrounding patio. The official tree lighting took place on Sunday, December 4 at dusk.

The Coventry Carolers , a quartet of professionals decked out in Victorian regalia, provided seasonal music and a 19th century aura, to enhance the building, which has been on the corner of Back Street and Front Street since 1875.

Steakhouse owner, Jim Stake, went to Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard to purchase the tree because he wanted to support a new business in town. The Harvest Moon owners were so pleased they donated the 17-foot Frasier tree in sincere holiday community spirit.

Pastor Tim Wagner of the Croton Falls Community Church helped Stake hang the 7,000 lights, and lent his antique sleigh as well.

The restaurant did not advertise the event. “We’ve never advertised anything,” said Stake. “We’re strictly word-of-mouth.” Nevertheless, more than 100 local residents turned out for the tree lighting. Supervisor Warren Lucas was among the crowd. Somers residents Michael Barnhart and Elizabeth Breslin trekked over and North Salem Junior Girl Scout Troop 1046, having completed their Frosty Fun Day fundraiser at the Community Church, trooped down the street to Croton Creek, and brought Frosty the Snowman along.

This is the second year that Croton Creek Steakhouse has provided a Christmas tree for Croton Falls. The restaurant has been on the corner of Back and Front for five years and continues to be well-reviewed and a favorite gathering spot for locals.

The Coventry Carolers came from BeMused Productions , owned by Stake’s high school chum, Kim Breden. “It’s always nice when you can hire your friends,” he said.
