Dorothy Kurka, Peach Lake Resident, Dies at 86

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Dorothy Kurka of Peach Lake in North Salem passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14. She was 86 years old.

The Kurkas were summer and weekend visitors to Peach Lake until their retirement in 1981, when they became full-time residents.

Previously, Kurka was District Leader of Yonkers’ First Ward Democratic Club and served two years as Yonkers Chairwoman for the March of Dimes.

Kurka is survived by her husband of 64 years, Eugene, her sister, Anne Kazimir, her daughters, Dorothy Jean Siuta, Barbara Anne Kavanaugh and Linda Kavanaugh, and their husbands, Gerald Suita and Robert Kavanaugh, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her son-in-law, Thomas Kavanaugh.

The family will receive friends between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.and 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster. A burial mass will be offered at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph’s Church, 10 Croton Falls Rd., Croton Falls.
