NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Ten five-year-olds received their very first diplomas earlier this month at the YMCA Learning Center graduation.
In addition to marching across the stage in miniature caps and gowns on June 15, the children presented a self-written play based on the book, “The Hungry Caterpillar”.
Center Director Kim Dias said, “At the YMCA Learning Center we know that the first 2,000 days of a child’s life are when 85 percent of the brain’s pathways are developed. This is a critical time in the educational life of a child. Without sacrificing fun and joy in every day play we ensure that our graduates are well prepared to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, physically and creatively as they move on to Kindergarten.”
The YMCA Learning Center is at 336 Route 202 in Somers, with a branch at 107 Titicus Road (at the Purdys United Methodist Church) in North Salem. For more information see the center's website.
