NORTH SALEM, N.Y. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is starting a fundraiser raffle to purchase a generator that will serve the library in case of power outages. Anyone who lost power during last years storms will appreciate the need.
Thanks to the North Salem Ambulance Corps dozens of people found warmth, water, Wi-Fi connections and companionship during Tropical Storm Irene in August and the October snowstorm.
The Ruth Keller Library could have accommodated people as well, but it too lost power and had to deal with building and stock maintenance emergencies because of the oyage.
We need it so our pipes dont freeze, our basement doesnt flood when the sump pumps stop and our patrons have another place to come to be warm, plug in their devices, find something to read, watch or listen, and check their email, said Library Director Carolyn Reznick.
Tickets for the Generator Fund Raffle are on sale at the library. Among the prizes are: two tickets to Broadways Mary Poppins, a $500 Visa gift card, a round of golf at the Salem Golf Club, a series of 10 exercise classes, dinners at 121 Restaurant and Farmer & the Fish, gift certificates to the Country Farmer, Kingsleys, the Meccanic Shop, the Brewster Flower Garden and the Aldrich Museum.
Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Even if you do not win, you will be happy for the opportunity to find a haven at the library during another power outage. The Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem.
