North Salem Girl Scouts Earn Gold Awards

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Three North Salem High School students were awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award for their contributions and impact in the community and beyond.

Through her project "A Healthy Mouth Equals A Healthy Body," Olivia Marino instructed underprivileged people on dental care in English and Spanish at the Association of Religious Communities food pantry in Danbury, Conn.

Julia D'Innocenzo's "Sharing the Game of Soccer" led to the creation of an elementary school program at Hyde Leadership Charter School in Hunts Point, N.Y., thanks to the donation of 700 pieces of soccer equipment.

Kiera McCarthy's project, "Helping the Hungry and the Homeless," delivers essential items such as food, toiletries and clothes to unsheltered homeless people in New York City.

The three joined Girl Scouts as Daisies at the age of 5. The Gold Award is the the highest award in Girl Scouting.
