North Salem Lions Celebrate With St. Patrick’s Day Meal

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The North Salem Lions Club held its annual St. Patrick’s Day party Thursday at its Purdys headquarters, celebrating with a traditional and tasty meal.

Susan Lucas provided the 40 guests with her usual Irish soda bread, and George Sica cooked up a batch of corned beef and cabbage in his special beer mixture. Chris Miras also sent over her own version of Irish soda bread.

“A number of lions came to clean up afterward,” said Janice Hellwinkel, former club president and originator of the St. Patrick's Day bash.

The North Salem Lions Club will hold an Easter Egg Hunt at the Westchester Exceptional Children’s School in Purdys on Friday, March 22, at 1 p.m. Lions will also go from classroom to classroom, distributing candy.

Saturday, March 23, is set aside for the annual Egg Hunt at Pequenakonck Elementary School. Lions will arrive at about 10:30 a.m. to set up for the festivities. The Egg Hunt begins promptly at noon.
