NORTH SALEM, N.Y. Photographer Patrick Cicalos "Street Level" exhibit at North Salems Ruth Keeler Memorial Library is an adroit example of how an artists eye intuitively settles on recurring themes and symbols.
When people ask me what kind of photographer I am," Cicalo says, "I usually say, a street photographer. It was not until he began to reorganize his archives that he realized he is sometimes a photographer of streets, as well.
Cicalo describes his work as editorial and journalistic."
"Sometimes you have a specific focus, he says, but we subconsciously take pictures of things in our minds eye, without even knowing it. I studied graphic arts in school, but never actually worked at it. I see things graphically. I go out and shoot and come back with patterns and textures.
In reference to his current exhibit, Cicalo says, One thing I have learned over the years is that sometimes it pays to look down."
Street Level will be at the Ruth Keeler Memorial Library until the end of July. The library is at 276 Titicus Road, North Salem. Join the artist for a reception Friday, July 20, from 6-8 p.m.
