North Salem's Boy Scout Troop 4 To Present Charter To Church

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – After waiting over a year, Purdys Boy Scout Troop 4 has received its charter from the national organization. Because the Purdys United Methodist Church sponsors the troop by providing a meeting place, the Scouts will present their charter to the church on Sunday at a ceremony following the 10 a.m. service.

Then in the afternoon the seven Scouts of Troop 4 will spend their time helping the congregation of around 25 to prepare for its semi-annual tag sale.

“It’s such a pleasure to have those nice young boys with their strong legs, going up and down the stairs, helping us set up,” said Church Trustee Paul Dengler of Goldens Bridge.

The tag sale will be held on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27, beginning at 9 a.m. Donations are still being accepted. All of the proceeds will be put toward maintaining the building. The items not sold at the tag sale will be donated to a shelter for battered women.

The Purdys United Methodist Church sponsors other groups as well, including the Northern Westchester YMCA Early Learning Center, which offers year-round full day and half day Toddler and Preschool programs for children between the ages of 18 months and five years. The programs concentrate on providing children with activities that promote self-esteem, personal responsibility and positive life choices. Children’s ideas and interests are often used as a springboard for activities in the classroom.

The Purdys United Methodist Church is at 106 Titicus Road in Purdys.
