Open Garden Days Coming to North Salem

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Several of America’s most admired gardens are in North Salem and will be open to the public for a day this spring.

Artemis Farm, home of Carol and Jesse Goldberg, is a large formal boxwood-enclosed garden, complete with antique 19th century garden ornaments. Other areas on the property include vegetable gardens, border gardens, and a pergola-covered dining area. The Goldberg gardens have been featured in several magazines.

Keeler Hill Farm is a bucolic site whose lovely gardens, both formal and casual, are enhanced by the nearby presence of horses, geese, ducks, guinea fowl, dogs and cats.

The gardens at Duck Hill, home of Page Dickey and Francis Schell, include an herb garden, a white garden, vegetable and cutting gardens and a lap pool with a rose pergola.

Perrin Garden features formal gardens surrounding an English-style country house, along with perennial beds, an apple orchard and a wildflower meadow, approached through plantings of native grasses and blueberry bushes.

Artemis Farm and Perrin Garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 3. Keeler Hill Farm and Duck Hill will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 3.

On Sept. 9, Dick Button’s Ice Pond Farm will be open to the public from 1-6 p.m. The garden is known for its irregular topography and unusual outbuildings, including an ice house, a smokehouse, a spring house, a gazebo and a stone bridge. The garden will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tickets may be ordered at The Garden Conservancy website or by telephoning (888) 842-2442. You also may enter any garden by paying $5 cash at the door. All proceeds will benefit the The Garden Conservancy.
