NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The North Salem Daily Voice accepts signed, original letters to the editor. Send letters by email to email@example.com.
The following letter is from Ruth Keeler Memorial Library board president Tim Purdy.
Dear Friend of the RKML:
I want to thank you for being part of our wonderful membership base. You are the key to the success of our library both through your financial support and your enthusiastic participation in our programs.
Our library occupies an important and unique place in North Salem and has a clear mission. We strive to provide the best possible service to all residents. Today, I am writing to invite you to help support our library through a donation to our annual appeal. The annual appeal plays a crucial part in enabling our library to serve you.
Generous support from the town covers only a portion of the cost of providing our services. Bridging the gap between town support and operational expenses, the annual appeal enables us to provide the level of service you have grown to expect.
Our fundraising activities are numerous and range from our gala cooks' night party before the Book Bake and Plantsale, to the Tables of Content dinners now being scheduled. I am grateful for your support of these activities but they raise only about half of the funds needed to supplement our budget. Therefore, I would like to ask that in your year-end giving, you consider making a gift to the annual appeal.
This year, we have had additional expenses for the installation of our backup generator and the water purification system mandated by the County. The water system is expected to cost in excess of $10,000. We have also upgraded and added electronic resources to better serve the needs of our patrons. If funds permit, we hope to add one additional computer and upgrade printing at a cost of about $2,000. These upgrades and improvements as well as programs such as the STEAM Fest are dependent on annual appeal contributions.
Thank you for making a gift to your library's annual appeal. Your gift will demonstrate your commitment to enabling us to provide you and your community with the best possible services.
I wish you a Happy Holidays and good cheer in the New Year.
Tim Purdy President, Board of Trustees
