We are just one week away from Thanksgiving. Where is the best place to get a delicious turkey? As people become more conscious of organic produce, meat and poultry, cooks are looking a little farther afield for holiday ingredients.
Locally, Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard is offering its "own vegetable fed, free range turkeys" which are fresh, never frozen and raised without antibiotics and hormones.
Hemlock Hill Farm in Cortlandt Manor, owned and operated by the De Maria family since 1939, has free range fresh killed turkeys, brought up right there on the property. Williams-Sonoma will ship free range organic turkeys, to be delivered on Tuesday, November 22.
Readers of the Somers and North Salem Facebook pages came up with more ideas: Gary Murphy recommends Miloski's Poultry Farm in Calverton, N. Y. while Marnie Piazza likes the fresh turkeys from Scaglios in Katonah.
Kate McDade said she got a good deal at the A & P and James Pietrangolare cited Shoprite. It is free if you spend $300. Diane Karsch said, For a kosher turkey, it has to be Sammys in Bedford Hills.
Marion LaFranco went in an entirely different direction and suggested closing up the kitchen and going out to one of the myriad of restaurants that are offering holiday fare.
