The event brought together members of the local small business community to discuss the tax environment across the state.

“Small businesses play a crucial role in job growth,” said Buchwald, according to a press release. “As a former tax attorney, I am a firm believer that government should foster a relationship with the small business community.”

Robert Smith, the assistant public information officer for the state Department of Taxation and Finance, was the keynote speaker and talked about small business owners' concerns and what state resources they have at their disposal, according to a press release.

“Tax issues regarding small businesses are daunting, and it’s helpful to have a live person to speak with for vital insight and resources,” said Pound Ridge Organics Farm CEO Donna Simmons, according to a press release. “As long as I have been in business, I’ve learned valuable and new information from this forum that will help my small business.”

Buchwald's previous forums have touched on bringing young professionals to the area to partnering businesses and local non-profits together, according to a press release.
