For good reason.

The Somers High School senior and other volunteers completed his Eagle Scout Project on Saturday: building an entrance to the dog park on Route 100.

"The project was brought to our Boy Scout leader, Gus Talleur, by Ed Conte, who is one of the people that helped get the dog park in place," Pelter said. "They had already sold bricks to raise money for the project, so my job was to order the bricks, map out the area we would put a walkway in, and do the work."

Contractor Richard Pugni of R. Pugni & Sons lent a big helping hand in the project.

"I initially asked Rich to explain the process to me and run a seminar," Pelter said. "Instead, he not only stayed on site all of the workdays, he donated almost all of the materials I needed.

"Another thing that was a tremendous help was the fact that I had many blank bricks leftover from last summer's work by Rich at Reis Park. From there I had the same bricks engraved for the project."

The dog park is next to Mama Rosa's on Route 100. It is the same turn as the Somers Highway Department.
