Beshears made the proposal, which included an engagement ring, as he and his fellow firefighters stopped in front of the Brewster firehouse on Wednesday. The closest part of the procession, which went through downtown Brewster, momentarily stopped during the immediate aftermath.
The couple, who live locally, have known each other for a long time; Beshears said they have “been seeing each other for over 11 years.”
Beshears has been a Brewster firefighter for more than 14 years.
Asked about the parade being the choice to make the proposal, Sullivan said, “it's been a big part of his life forever, and it's been a big part of my life as long as we've been together.”
