The award is given to students who have distinguished themselves by completing 400 hours of community service, 200 hours of personal development and physical activities and a 4-night exploration or expedition project.
Nager did his community service as a Research Assistant at Katonah's John Jay Homestead . For the personal and physical development aspect, he worked with an environmental group monitoring local water quality and ran track and cross-country at the High School. His expedition involved a 5-day camping and climbing trip in the Adirondacks.
New York Representative Nan Hayworth was on hand to present the award to her young constituent.
