FEMA Assistance Available to North Salem Residents

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Supervisor Warren Lucas announced North Salem homes that suffered damage from Tropical Storm Irene between the dates of Aug. 26 and Sept. 6, may be eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

To register with FEMA, call 1-800-621-3362 or go to the website . The telephone call is automated, so be prepared to write down instructions. You will have to give your social security number, your family’s gross income, the date the disaster occurred, your phone number and address, and information about your insurance coverage.

FEMA may cover damage that your insurance company does not cover, or may even cover your insurance deductible. If your home is uninsured, FEMA may still cover damages.

Once you are registered, FEMA will send a representative to your home to review the situation.

There is a time limit, so Lucas suggests that residents act promptly.
