The fire started inside the building, an official on the scene said. But, the exact cause of the blaze is unknown. The fire was brought under control about an hour after it broke out around 9:30 a.m.

Two firefighters smelled smoke from the left bay storage room and attempted to save the fire trucks and other equipment. The firefighters saved some of the fire apparatuses, but two were heavily damaged, according to officials.

Fire departments from Bedford (Bedford Hills), Lewisboro (Vista and South Salem), North Salem (Croton Falls), Yorktown Heights, Mount Kisco, Brewster, among others, assisted in battling the blaze. When crews arrived, flames were shooting out of the roof of the building.

The fire was brought under control once the Bedford Hills ladder truck arrived and was able to get above the flames.

The firehouse is located at 254 Waccabuc Road on Route 138. The road is closed in both directions between Lake Street and Bradys Farm Road.

Local and state officials are expected to hold a press conference regarding the fire later on Monday. State police are leading an investigation into the cause of the fire.
