Five Supervisors Endorse Michaelis for Legislature

KATONAH, N.Y. – Peter Michaelis, the Republican candidate for the Westchester County Legislature in District 2, has received the endorsement of five northern Westchester town supervisors.

At a press conference in Katonah on Monday morning, Charles Duffy of Lewisboro, Gary Warshauer of Pound Ridge, Mary Beth Murphy of Somers, Warren Lucas of North Salem and Lee Roberts of Bedford all threw their support behind Michaelis.

Michaelis is seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent Peter Harckham. “I’m very proud to be here with my fellow supervisors and endorse Peter Michaelis,” Murphy said. “I’ve discussed the issues with him that are of grave concern, such as the enormous tax burden, and he understands. He understands the issues like open space, water, sewer and the aesthetics of our towns.”

Most of the supervisors said they supported Michaelis because they feel the Democrats’ super majority in the legislature needs to be broken in order to cut taxes and reduce government bloat.

“I like Peter and I know he will work hard to support County Executive Rob Astorino to reduce costs and the size of the county government,” Warshauer said.

Duffy said he felt Michaelis would be the best candidate because he understands the issues that face Lewisboro. “I heartily endorse Peter Michaelis because District 2 needs a representative who is in touch with Lewisboro,” he said.

Lucas said the District 2 representative needs to understand what is going on in northern Westchester.

“We need people who understand the northern part of the county,” he said. “I’ve been talking to [Michaelis] a lot and he understands those issues. I heartily endorse him”

Harckham said he found it ironic that this group of supervisors endorsed Michaelis primarily over a concern about taxes.

“You can’t make this stuff up,” he said. “We have a group of elected officials who have constantly raised taxes who are endorsing a candidate who has no plans to cut taxes who is running against an elected official who has cut taxes – in fact, cut taxes more than twice the amount the county executive proposed.”
