NORTH SALEM N.Y. - Betty Black , a longtime resident of Croton Falls, passed away in Cartersville, Ga. on January 12, at the age of 68.
Mrs. Black worked for 23 years at Northern Westchester Hospital as a physical therapy technician. She was an active member of the North Salem Ambulance Corps , serving as an EMT. North Salem resident, Pat Hitchcock, said, Betty and I were good friends on the ambulance corps. We got our 20-year awards at the same time. She had a great laugh and she usually had a smile. She was fun to be with.
When she was not helping others, Mrs. Black was an avid bird-watcher, with a special interest in hummingbirds.
Mrs. Black is survived by two daughters, Tracy Russell of Pennsylvania and Katharine Garlepp of Woodstock, G., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Joseph LePage of Albuquerque, N.M. and Louie LePage of Briarcliff Manor. She was pre-deceased by her son, William Black, in 1984.
Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, One Putnam Avenue, Brewster, on Monday, January 16 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A burial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17 at St. Josephs Church in Croton Falls. Interment will follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, Somers.
