NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Here comes the first Monday of September or, for the 130th year in America’s history, the day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of America’s workers. It is Labor Day.

Labor Day is a federal holiday. As usual, banks, state, federal and community government offices, the stock market, schools, post offices and libraries will be closed. Garbage normally collected Monday will be collected Tuesday.

Large retail establishments, such as the Danbury Mall and the Ridgefield Stop & Shop, will conduct business as usual.

Front Street Cellar and Who’s Cooking in Croton Falls will be closed. Hygrade Market will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Country Farmer and Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard are open.

Restaurants ordinarily open Mondays, such as 121 Restaurant, will be open.

North Salem schools open Thursday.
