Large Rainbows Emerge Near North Salem Following Downpours

CARMEL, N.Y. -- An unusual sight emerged in eastern Putnam County on Sunday afternoon: the appearance of two massive rainbows in the sky.

Sections of two large rainbows are visible in the sky over Carmel following a Sunday afternoon downpour. The upper rainbow is faded (and barely visible) while the lower rainbow offers a brighter contrast to the background.

The two rainbows appeared following a heavy downpour of rain.

Of the rainbows, the upper one took on a faded appearance while the lower one was vivid, providing a notable contract to the backdrop of leafless trees and a cloudy, post-storm sky.

Photos of the rainbows, taken in Carmel and above a nearby reservoir, are attached.
