To the Editor,
Politico recently reported that a variety of renewable energy producers in New York are seeking state subsidies to continue producing energy for the state.
The proposed payments add up to our state's economic destruction. Recall the Public Service Commission paying $7 billion of ratepayer money to a private company to keep uneconomical nuclear power plants in service.
At the local level, our elected officials struggle to meet the needs of towns and schools, along with the Albany unfunded mandates. Home rule is slowly being destroyed by destructive economic practices of state government.
These PSC "taxes" drive business and people from the state. You can measure loss by looking at the number of congressional seats we have lost over the last three decades.
I have raised concerns about these types of destructive economic practices, which have great favor in the legislative-executive halls of Albany. All to no avail. All I see are the lobbyists of Washington Street holding great sway over citizens' hard earned money.
Do you care about us, or will silence prevail?
Sincerely,
William Monti
