Updated: DANBURY, Conn. — No one was hurt, but service was suspended Tuesday night for nearly three hours after a car cut through a crossing and was clipped by a train near the Danbury station, a Metro-North spokesman said.

The incident occurred at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, involving a train that had just left the Danbury station and was headed toward South Norwalk on the Danbury Branch, the spokesman said.

The vehicle passed through the Taylor Street crossing while the gates were down, the spokesman said. The train clipped the car, which sped away, she said.

There were five customers aboard the train when that occurred, but no injuries were reported.

Train service was suspended between Danbury and West Redding while the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's police department investigated. Train service resumed by about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, the spokesman said.

Two Metro-North trains had been impacted. A northbound train stopped in West Redding. The southbound passengers remained on the train involved in the accident, which occurred about three-quarters of a mile from the Danbury station.

When service resumed, they were taken to Bethel to get on a train for the rest of the trip to South Norwalk, she said.

MTA police officers were on the scene late Tuesday to investigate. They determined there was no damage at the crossing, the spokesman said.

The car involved has not been located.
