Bareburger, which is opening at 50 Purchase Street, was founded by Euripedies Pelekanos and four friends in 2009. The friends were on the hunt for a restaurant in New York City that served a great hamburger and catered to people with alternative diets. The first restaurant opened in Astoria.

The restaurant boasts burgers that are sustained, responsibly sourced and organic. They buy their ingredients from local farms and offer a variety of burgers made out of bison, duck, wild boar and sweet potatoes, according to Anthony Roman, a company spokesman. The rolls and french fries are gluten free, Roman said.

The restaurant interiors are made of reclaimed wood, which goes along with the theme of their business, Roman said. At present, they have 37 locations with ten more opening by the end of the year.
