NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- North Salem officials are considering the creation of a registry that would allow residents to request not to be solicited.

Supervisor Warren Lucas mentioned the idea at the Town Board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26. As an example, he cited one that Lewisboro has in place. He compared the idea to a "do not call" registry.

A public hearing could come next, with September mentioned as a possibility.

Lewisboro's version is called the Do Not Knock Registry and has forms available online for people to get involved.

Councilman Stephen Bobolia dismissed the use of door-to-door soliciting in today's era, citing the Internet instead.

Currently, according to Lucas, people have to register with the town before they can sell door-to-door, and  identification is required for those who do so.
