Indy, a 6-year old wallaby, was last seen at his home on Titicus Road between the town garage and the town library in North Salem at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Warren Saks, who owns the domesticated Indy, believes he ran out of their fenced yard after deer broke their fence and frightened him.

"He is gentle but frightens easily," Saks said. "He will not hurt a fly but will run away if scared so a stranger wouldn't be able to pick him up."

Indy has been a member of the Saks family for five years after their son rescued him from someone in upstate New York who took Indy to schools and kept him in a playpen.

"I am devastated," Saks said. "Unfortunately, it's not looking good. He's a pet."

Saks has alerted people in North Salem to be on the lookout if they see anything hopping around. Last summer, Indy briefly got out and was seen hopping on Route 116.

"He was really spooked by the deer," Saks said. "Either he's lost his own scent or is hurt, I don't know. It's a total mystery."

Saks said he is a very sweet animal who is very docile.

"He looks like a big rabbit," Saks said. "I can't imagine where he went. He could be anywhere."

Anyone who has spotted Indy should call the Saks at 914-669-0006 or  646-628-6228
