NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The North Salem Daily Voice has been recapping some of the most important stories of 2012. Now here are a few of the things to look forward to in the new year.

  • A major change will be the completion of the new St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, adjacent to Kennedy Catholic High School in Somers. The new building will replace the old church on Croton Falls Road in Croton Falls. “I’d like to think it’ll be finished by Easter,” said Business Manager Richard Casterella. “But it could be March… or April… or May... Anyway, early spring.”
  • Bridleside, the 65-unit affordable housing project destined for a site near Kingsley’s on June Road will see the first of its buildings completed before the end of 2013. Ground has already been broken. “It’ll probably be an eight-unit building,” said developer Bill Balter. “We’ll start marketing in about two months.”
  • As part of the town’s agreement with Balter-Wilder, developers of Bridleside, the firm will make a number of improvements to town facilities. Before the end of 2013, North Salem can expect a new Highway Department building, a refurbished courtroom and meeting rooms, a new Police Department building and a relocated Building Department.
  • A generator to back up the Sunset Ridge Water District system is in the planning stage and should be completed sometime during 2013.
  • The Peach Lake waste-water treatment plant will be in full operation in the first quarter of 2013, coincidentally in conjunction with the building of the first cottage at Peach Lake 100 years ago.
  • Croton Falls’ Schoolhouse Theater has been undergoing renovations and will be opened for its new season on Feb. 28, with “Ten Unknowns,” written by Tony-nominee, Jon Robin Baitz. Later in the season, the Schoolhouse will present Neil Simon’s “Last of the Red Hot Lovers.”
