North Salem Post Offices To Drop Saturday Delivery

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – The United States Postal Service announced Wednesday that delivery of Saturday mail will be discontinued beginning the first week of August. However, post offices that are currently open Saturdays will continue to be open their normal Saturday hours. Locally, these include:

The Purdys post office is among several in the region that will continue to be open part of the day on Saturdays, although there will be no mail delivery.

Somers: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lincolndale: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon
Shenorock: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Granite Springs: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Amawalk: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon
North Salem: Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to noon
Purdys: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Croton Falls: Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon

Customers with post office boxes will continue to receive Saturday delivery. Packages will also be delivered on Saturdays.

The Postal Service said in a news release that customers are being informed six months in advance so they have time to adjust to the change.

Together with the current program of employee reassignment and attrition, the new plan is estimated to provide a Postal Service savings of approximately $2 billion per year.

So far, most Daily Voice Facebook readers seem comfortable about the alteration in service.
