North Salem Supervisor Suggests Changes For Busy Croton Falls Intersection

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- North Salem Supervisor Warren Lucas is working to help residents and commuters from throughout the area who fight the daily backup of traffic headed southbound on 202 coming into Croton Falls.

Lucas said on Facebook that numerous residents had complained about the problem with driver's taking a right on Route 22 near the Baptist Church, and then a left at the light on Route 202 to bypass the backup on Route 202 coming south. Once that happens people traveling north on Route 22 can't make the left at the Baptist Church.

To help solve the issue, Warren contacted Departement of Transportation Regional Traffic Safety Engineer, Maureen Kuinlan, with two suggestions:

1. Increase the amount of time the traffic light allows southbound traffic to move south on Route 202 so that the backup will be reduced and hopefully cars will no longer find the need to come down 22 to bypass the light.

2. Put a "No Right Turn" sign that prevents turns from 6 to 9 a.m. on Route 22 at the Baptist Church / Route 22 intersection so that southbound traffic can't make a right.

Lucas said DOT has agreed to review the intersection and that Kuinlan believes it would be best to look at the signal timing first and if they can’t make adjustments then to look into a right turn restriction.

"I will let you know as things progress. if you notice anything beneficial happening please let me know," he said.
