NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - The Daily North Salem is taking a few lines away from local news to pay tribute to the dozens and dozens of people who gave their time and sometimes sacrificed their own safety to see our town through the onset and aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene.
Volunteer firefighters and emergency workers selflessly serve the public at all times, but it is in emergencies like last weeks that the rest of us only begin to understand what these noble men and women undertake.
North Salems town officials were on active and productive duty practically 24/7.
Many residents came forward, unasked, to donate food and personal time.
In some cases, people came from neighboring towns to take advantage of the generous services at the Daniel Road Ambulance Corps.
Irenes damage was disarming but could have been worse. From one neighbor to another, your local news site wants to say thank you to everyone.
Kudos to North Salem -- what a town!
